What is Decentralized Storage by FLUX (FluxDrive)?
Decentralized storage is a concept that aims to improve the privacy, security, censorship resistance, cost and availability of file storage systems by leveraging the advantages of decentralized networks. Unlike cloud storage, which stores files remotely on servers operated by a single service provider, decentralized storage systems split user files into several encrypted fragments and delegate their storage to multiple participants of a geographically and organizationally distributed network, such as a blockchain.
One of the main advantages of decentralized storage is increased security and privacy. By distributing multiple redundant copies of file fragments across the network, even if some nodes become compromised, files can still be retrieved from the remaining nodes. Additionally, since no single entity is in charge of the network, decentralized storage systems are also more resistant to censorship.
Another advantage in particular of decentralized storage is increased uptime. With data being available from multiple network nodes, most of which are online at any given moment, decentralized storage systems are less likely to experience downtime. This also makes it more reliable as compared to centralized storage where a single point of failure can lead to loss of stored data.
Another benefit of decentralized storage is that it is more cost-effective than traditional cloud storage solutions. Since the data is distributed across multiple nodes, the cost of data storage is spread out among all network participants, rather than being borne by a single entity. This can lead to lower costs for users and a more sustainable business model for the network providers.
Decentralized storage also allows for greater control and ownership of data for users. With centralized storage solutions, users are at the mercy of the service provider in terms of access to their data and any changes made to that data. In a decentralized storage system, users have more control over their data since it is distributed across the network and can be accessed by the user directly rather than being controlled by a central authority.
Lastly, decentralized storage allows for greater scalability. As the number of users and files increases, the network can easily scale to accommodate them by adding more nodes to the network. As you can see below in the video there are currently over 14,000 nodes active on the Flux network. This allows for a more flexible and adaptable storage solution that can grow and evolve as needed.
In conclusion, decentralized storage is a promising concept that offers several benefits over traditional centralized storage solutions. By using decentralized networks to store data, it provides increased security and privacy, censorship resistance, uptime, cost-effectiveness, control and ownership of data and scalability. These benefits are making decentralized storage an attractive option for both individuals and businesses looking for a more secure and reliable way to store and access their data.
The Flux Foundation has introduced one of the first known Web3 options for storing your files. As shown below:
In order to use this feature you go here.
- You click “FluxDrive”.
- You will then be prompted to sign into your ZelCore Wallet.
- Purchase a plan by Flux.
4. You are off to storing your files in the most secure and decentralized way.
Comparison/Review
After using FluxDrive for the past week, I am extremely satisfied with my experience. The website is user-friendly and easy to navigate, making it simple to upload and access my files. The upload process is quick and seamless, and I have had no issues with file compatibility. The website is very responsive when I open up the documents. There is no delay whatsoever. Overall, I highly recommend FluxDrive to anyone in need of a reliable and efficient way to store and access their files.
Majority of people will complain and state that its cheaper to use Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive. These competitors limit your bandwidth and Flux does not have any limits currently. These users don’t know how easy it is for either company to shut you off and you completely lose all of your files. As time goes on, and censorship increases people will want to migrate to a platform where there is less censorship and Flux is off to being #1 in this space.
I hope everyone finds this review/guide helpful.
