Two Weeks of Writing on Medium

First, this isn’t one of those articles you seen on Medium that state, “This is how I got to 100 Followers. You can do it too” type of posts. I wanted to share how I got to where I’m at on Medium. I only have 10 followers as of date so I’m not getting paid to write yet.

What I wanted to focus on is how I got to the 1,000 views. In order to even gain followers you need viewership and getting your name and articles out there in front of people. Let’s get into it:

  1. Titles of the Blog Posts You are Writing need to be Short & Catchy to the Readers Eye as they scroll through Medium
  • For example, this could be sharing a personal story.. “How I did this”. People love hearing from other people and establishing a personal connection.

2. Don’t overfill the Blog Post with a Ton of Information

  • Some people’s attention span is less than 30 seconds to a min. while reading and if they feel bored at all they’ll just stop reading.
  • Separate the blog story into different points & paragraphs.
  • This is why TikTok is so big because of the short videos users watch.

3. Promote the Medium Story on other Social Media platforms.

  • Medium wants you to do this, so it attracts more users to their platform in order for them to get the new users to buy a membership. I honestly think that the more external views you get Medium treats you differently in its algorithm.

4. ENGAGEMENT: Read, Clap, and Respond to other Medium Stories

  • Engage with other writers on a regular basis and comment on their work. It’s all about making connections with other people with similar interests.
  • Consistency is key.

How I did It:

I started out my Medium journey two weeks ago. I wrote a blog post that was very informative on an interest of mine. I wrote the story and had 0 followers. I shared it on my other social media platforms and the informative story got shared and posted to another bigger platform which caused people to come to Medium to read my work.

I also started responding to multiple people’s stories that had similar interests of mine and engaged in conversations. These connections eventually lead to claps and follows.

I wrote to a specific niche that I had an audience to write for on other social media platforms. I took those viewers and tried to convert them to Medium followers. THIS IS A SLOW AND STEADY RACE it’s not going to come overnight.

Hopefully this helps other people just starting out on Medium for the first time! Don’t give up!
